Description

Operations Record Books were produced by Groups, Stations, Squadrons and Other Units (such as Training Units); the content and accuracy of the documents vary significantly

The Squadron’s Operations Record Book produced during the inter-war years provides:

  • a monthly summary of events

The Squadron’s Operations Record Book produced during WWII provides:

  • a monthly summary of events (Form 540)
  • a daily “detail of work carried out” (Form 541) which lists the serial number, crew, duty and flight times relating to each aircraft movement, along with any remarks / observations.

The Squadron’s Operations Record Book produced during the post-war years provides:

  • a monthly summary of events (Form 540)
  • in some instances, a daily “detail of work carried out” (Form 541) which lists the serial number, crew and flight times relating to each aircraft movement, along with any remarks / observations.

Availability

The Operations Record Books for Groups, Stations, Squadrons and Other Units (such as Training Units) are held at the National Archives (TNA), Kew.

All are available for viewing and copying, with some (primarily the squadron records) available via the TNA download service.
