The RFC Casualty Report shows “Machine left aerodrome at 1.30 and collided with Armstrong-Whitworth FK8 B255 at about 3.00. Machine came down in a spin and crashed into a tree (28.U.21.b .Ploegsteert Wood); pilot broke both legs and fractured his skull; observer strained back”.
