Boeing B-29 [Washington] WW350 was being utilised for a Practice Bombing exercise on 28th April 1953.

The AM Form 1180 shows “During flight the ring clip securing the exhaust tail pipe fractured and as a result the pipe became displaced allowing a portion of the hot exhaust gases to be discharged into the engine nacelle at the rear of the fire proof bulkhead causing a fire. Pilot returned to base and made a normal landing.”
